MR16 Bulbs
MR16 bulbs measure approximately 2 inches in diameter, and are available in various wattages and beam spreads. The higher the wattage, the brighter the light output. The higher the beam spread number (in degrees), the wider the beam angle. For example, a 60° beam spread is considered a Flood Light, and a 12° beam spread is considered a spot light.

MR16 Light Bulbs are the most common bulbs used for landscape lighting. MR16 Bulbs measure 2 inches in diameter, so if you are looking for replacement bulbs make sure your old bulbs are that size. If they are smaller but look like MR16 bulbs then they are most likely MR11 bulbs, which are found in the MR11 bulb categories. They also come in the largest selection of wattages and beam spreads. MR 16 Bulbs are available in wattages from 10 watts to 75 watts, and in beam spreads from 12° to 60°. MR16 Bulbs can also use filters that provide different effects, like a frosted filter to diffuse the light, or a linear filter to direct the light in a specific direction, or colored filters to change the light output to red, green, amber, blue, etc. These filters may require the use of a lens retaining clip to secure the filter to the face of the MR 16 light bulb. The filters and the lens retaining clips can be found in this MR16 Bulbs section, along with all of the different wattages and beam spreads of MR16 bulbs available. If you really want to get technical you can study our Photometrics Guide found in the Resources section of our website. This guide will show the spread of light any distance from the fixture and is handy for figuring out just which bulb you need for your specific site conditions.
LED retrofit versions of MR16 bulbs are available in many different wattages and light spreads. While more expensive then conventional halogen bulbs, LED MR 16 light bulbs are much more energy efficient and put out more light per watt. The typical 3 watt LED MR16 bulb emits as much light as a 20-25 watt halogen bulb. This saves you money in energy usage, and allows you to use smaller and less costly transformers for your landscape lighting system. If you want to add more fixtures to an existing landscape lighting system but are near the maximum load on your transformer, then converting some or all of your fixtures to LED will allow you to easily add more lights.
