Post Top Lights


Post Top Lights are designed to fit on the top of standard 4" x 4" or 6" x 6" wood posts and are powered by inexpensive, low voltage transformers. Post Top Lights
Special landscape Post Top Lights have been designed to easily mount to the tops of standard 4 x4 and 6 x 6 wooden posts. Most wooden posts are not actually the same size as the size they are called. For example a 4 x 4 post is actually 3 ½” x 3 ½” in size. This is typical for wood construction materials. So the outdoor post top lights are made to fit the actual dimensions of the wooden posts. They usually consist of a trip piece that fits over the top of the post and provides a decorative look as well as a way to hide the wiring.

Most landscape post top lights are decorative in construction, and have glass panels, and are available in various styles and designs. Many finishes and materials are available for post top lights, including painted aluminum finishes, or brass and copper natural finishes. Wiring of outdoor post top lights is a simple matter; due to the use of 12 volt (low voltage) power there is no need to install metal conduit or junction boxes. The wire can be run between the wood post and a fence rail, or concealed behind the post or under a handrail. The wire can even be run inside the post by drilling a small hole down from the top to a concealed location lower on the post. Running the wiring for post top lights is as simple as connecting speakers to a stereo system. Landscape post top lights can easily be installed by a handyman or homeowner with minimal skills and simple hand tools. Outdoor post top lights can also be installed on metal post or on top of railings by using different parts of the mounting plates. Most fixtures include the mounting plates for both 4 inch and 6 inch size posts, making them very versatile. Post top lights are available with conventional 12 volt halogen bulbs or with energy efficient LED retrofit bulbs. They also are available with various colors of glass for different looks, and are sure to add beauty and value to your home.
